This was all a bit hard to follow , Brad, but at least you rescued “City on a Hill” from Reagan and located its true place in scripture and with your buddy, Winthrop.

All of these comments are from people who understand economics. Many Americans who were uneducated, but not stupid, thought we were sending money to Europe to win friends. The idea that the Marshall Plan money was not stored in a secret compartment, but actually spent in the United States was beyond their comprehension. I had a second cousin who was quite intelligent

and very good at construction work who thought that we were trying to buy friends, which was a bad idea because if you support people for nothing, they wind up hating you. Allen Kamp
