Leading to fundamentally misinforming your readers about what has been going on in the Trump-Putin relationship over the past year. When journalistic wishful thinking meets geopolitical reality...
Well I think you are both wrong: Trump's policy toward Russia has been more consistent than you acknowledge and the most recent "threats" are just kayfabe.
It is amazing how much good press Trump gets for such bad actions.
Last week he was hailed as a hero for releasing ten (10) missiles to Ukraine, having just previously blocked a shipment of thirty (30). So far, congress has appropriated zero (0) dollars to support Ukraine under Trump's administration; all of the actions he has taken so far apply to assistance already approved by congress under Biden. For some reason, when Trump allows 10 of 30 of Biden's missiles through, that is supposed to be better than Biden forcing the Europeans to divert seven hundred (700) Patriot missiles to Ukraine in 2024.
Now you're trying to tell me that Trump has magically ginned up 17 new missile batteries for Ukraine? Even if it's true, the claim is only that *he is now allowing Europe to buy Patriots on Ukraine's behalf*. That is, he is no longer going to block those sales. Such a hero!
Finally, when translated to English, the threat of "severe sanctions withing 50 days" issued by Trump means "sanctions are suspended for 50 days". Teflon Don.
Very well said! Those who want the world to believe that Trump is not a weathervane truly have been on another planet. His entire agenda is to grab as much money as he can, get out, and leave it to someone else to try to clean up the mess.
To paraphrase Upton Sinclair, It is difficult to get a person to understand something, when their salary and growth stock heavy portfolio depends on their not understanding it.
Look at the success of Jake Tapper who, even now, is begging people to see just how OLD Biden still is.
To see the chaos-monkey in Trump and the Democracy destroying SCOTUS and GOP is to be apprehensive at a minimum.
All kinds of soul selling and whistling past the graveyard in the sanewashing.
It's a cogent analysis. I've wondered about Trump. Can he truly be as....single mindedly narcissistic as he seems? How could he have risen so high and stayed so long?
Putin has perpetrated the single most successful operation in the history of man. He has installed as the leader of his enemy a cretin. Still, he hasn't succeeded even in the Ukraine adventure.
It's depressing how much of the MSM supposedly high-brow supposed journalism is actually just rote posturing. Treating the President as dignified and high-minded even with this feces flinger in place shows the problem, for sure.
Thank you for this thoughtful post. This, together with an earlier post, helps me understand how you view Trump and his Russian/Putin leanings; and because I respect your opinion, these posts anchor my understanding. Reliable cognitive anchors are helpful, or as your post today on AI and manipulation makes clear, maybe even essential.
The NYT does not so much inform as peddle 'professional moderate' opinions which chide Trump, whereby their aging liberal readership can continue to believe that the paper has a leftish perspective.
I think that Trump has a notion, (can't call a conviction, or strategy, or concept) that if he just cuts off support to Ukraine, that Putin will win. However implementing that with out appearing like a Putin pool boy, requires finesse, not one of his skills.

Putin didn't install Trump. My God.

You over-credit Trump.
