Trump is clickbait incarnate. Along with pandering to the lowest semi-common denominator, it's the secret of his stunning irruption into our deeply troubled market-totalitarian culture.

Behind the daily video clips and headlines are substantive changes. Hires, raises, and promotions of any who aren't white males can be questioned. International agreements by the US are worthless. Fraud will not be prosecuted, but complaints about Trump may be. Not only immigration but also labor force growth will virtually halt. Federal government assets will be liquidated or 'monetized' into a murky sovereign wealth fund. Foreign dictators have been assured that international aggression will be condoned, which will at some point lead to another Kuwait-type invasion, or worse (think Taiwan).

We must think and communicate in thematic narratives rather than report and react to the daily stage show.

it does puzzle me: How can Trump make agreements if he does not keep past ones? -B.

That’s the maddening thing about these people who insist that Trump is a master deal maker playing 4 dimensional chess. It’s a good sign that they’ve never actually negotiated a deal and imagine that it’s all bluster and kayfabe, like “The Apprentice.”

In reality, if you have a counterparty that has no intention of honoring its commitments, you take extra protective measures up front to limit your risk. Or you stop dealing with that counterparty altogether. That’s bad for everyone. As a borrower, it’s not some sign of great strength that you threaten to default and tear up the contract if you don’t get a better interest rate— it’s a sign that you’re unreliable, and your lender will demand a lot more collateral before lending to you in the future.

Trump doesn’t even see that far— as far as I can tell, he thinks that honoring commitments is a sign of weakness, and default is some sign of great strength. He’s an idiot, of course, but the performance works quite well with big chunks of the electorate.

From the 2008 crash we found contractionary policies are, indeed, contractionary. From the comparison world wide of Biden policies to pretty much every other country we can conclude that expansionary policies are expansionary. Conservatives do not seem convinced by reality.

Given that there is a multiplier in governmental spending is there a subtraction multiplier when it is slashed?
