I enjoyed the books. They were my main Kindle reading on a trip to Melbourne where they are largely set. I doubt I'll watch the show. I'd rather not be disappointed by the video version.
It's not surprising that Phryne was a high end prostitute and so made her fortune. It is also not surprising that her offer to pay to rebuild the walls was rejected. Interestingly, she shows up in pornography from that era when pornography would be excused if it embraced a classical theme.
