Is Tooze's father really German? I had the impression that his parents were English but lived in Germany.
Anyway, if you are going to pronounce "Tooze" in German, then the "z" is a "ts" sound, like the "zz" in "pizza", and the "oo" is long, like in ... "Das Boot", for instance. So a phonetic rendering in English might be something like "Toatsuh".
