The Internet is pretty clear that UN/US ground troops never crossed the Yalu River into China during the Korean War.

I think Brad ought to get a pass on this. He is right far more often than he is wrong. It may be a situation where he succumbed to group think. It seemed at least plausible that adopting a market economy would eventually result in political and social liberalization. The examples of Taiwan and South Korea suggested this.

regarding vinge: the "sled" the plants used was not what you think. it had a wide band connection to the plant mind. it was not a prosthesis connected to plant motor nerves, since there are none. more, it provided short term memory for the plant. also, it provided wireless communication to other plants and other species. also the internet. when the sled was taken apart, it was an incomprehensable artifact of an advanced civilization.

the "sled" was not a skateboard, it was an advanced iphone.

it could be hacked by malevolent entities in the (galactic) cloud.

an iphone with wheels. six wheels.
