The 'mini budget' that made him KamiKwasi. Can't begin to describe how surreal it was to listen to this in the first place. You knew, hearing it, that we were plunging into the unknown again, politically.

By 17 October the new Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, completed the reversal of most of the measures announced - on corporation tax, income tax, VAT, and alcohol duty. The BBC had for several days been keeping a running scorecard of major measures with ticks or crosses to show whether they were still in play (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-62920969), which is an astonishing thing in itself.

I have heard - and this is pure scuttlebut so huge pinch of salt - that they had some idea they could keep the energy guarantee liabilities off-balance-sheet and that that would keep more headroom for other measures. Which is a very accountantish way of looking at things.
