I suspect that the Supreme Court's actions in Virginia are salami tactics and I worry that they will work: the current administration will not respond to a coup attempt with sufficient vigour.

What happens to a sundowning bullshitter? I'm much taken by the late Princeton Philosophy professor Harry Frankfurt's writing on the subject, readily available in his book entitle On Bullshit. In discussing the nature of bullshit, he quotes Eric Ambler (father of the modern spy novel) writing about a character in Dirty Story whose philosophy was given to him by his father who he taught him, "Never tell a lie when you can bullshit your way through" In the past, Trump has been very good at using b.s. to prevent focusing on his real goals and accomplishments. The problem for the sundowning bullshitter is that he loses focus on the goal, and gets tangled in his own delusions as to what is true, but is aided by national reporting that lacks the desire to sink their teeth into anything but the immediate, and therefore loses any trace of perspective.

I was so disgusted that I wrote a piece for my long dormant blog about bullshit and the far right replacement theory, which turns out to be true but the MAGA alt/right reasons are brazen BS.

The truth is that women's income has increased dramatically since the introduction of the pill vs. the precipitous decline of farm and manufacturing labor, whereas young males have seen a very significant decline. Lots of sociological and cultural issues here.

Rather than connect-the-dots, it was the titillating news of Elon Musk's three wife, eleven kid compound that grabbed the headlines. Merely scratching the surface of the story which is that you can draw a direct line between '30s Nazi attempts to deal with declining population, Vance's 2021 campaign for the Senate, to Tucker Carlson's documentary on declining testosterone, and most scarily the Heritage Foundation article, The Pronatalists of Silicon Valley....citing a veritable who's who of venture capitalist supporters. It's impossible to deny the eugenic, racist nature. It is really frightening. I've linked all the above and more on my website.

Fingers crossed for the election and afterwards

I'm concerned that if Our Gracious Host meant our national sundowning rather than Mr Trump's, he were right.

He is _not_ just a symptom, he has encouraged and made more virulent the disease, but in the end he is only dangerous because enough of us vote for him—true, not a majority, and something more like democracy in choosing Presidents would likely have stopped him…but if we stayed as we are maybe someone as malign and persuasive but a little less prone to stereotypically rich-kid lack of self-restraint would get a majority of us.

So how must we change?
