Trump's comments in Las Vegas were more unhinged than even this sample suggests. Of his comments, one mighty justly say, "He jumped the shark."

What the hell is he talking about?

Trump supporters I know say, "Don't look at what he says, watch what he does." Well of course if they could think through the future implications of some of what he did as President, particularly in foreign policy, they would be terrified. But the important point is, they don't care what he says, no matter how outrageous or indecipherable. Trump's words become daily passcode to MAGA socializing. In fact the more outrageous it is, the more chance to outrage passersby, i.e. "own the libs".

This has at least four effects. (1) Newsmedia discount his vicious nonsense and underreport it. (2) His voters cannot learn any facts. (3) His descent into madness is indistinguishable to his voters. (4) Trump makes serious mistakes in politics and policy because the people he will listen to is a shrinking circle of dimwits.

Is this dementia or Alzheimers? I'm not sure. It sure as hell isn't Presidential, normal, or even rational. But is it any more abnormal than 2016 Trump? I'm not sure.

Both Trump and Biden live in communication cocoons. There are little to no free flow conversations from either, where the public could evaluate their cognitive abilities. My mother has dementia, but she can sound fine in a monologue. I think you have to get people in a free flowing dialogue to see dementia, which is almost impossible with Trump because his narcissism is so extreme that he only speaks in monologues.

It’s necessary to point out all the evidence of Trump’s utter unfitness for office, but please stop the “diagnosing” without adequate information. See Jonathan Bernstein’s excellent Substack on this very point today.

The media doesn't create narratives, they repeat them. Which is why we need a Trump opponent who can recite, ridicule, and blend these insanities into a new narrative.
