How the hell is this race tied?

0.) Five generations of being advertised- and marketed-to, which are an education in how _not_ to gather good data and to make reasonable, rational, decisions.

1.) Liberals' (though not all, and not I) deëmphasising self-discipline in education, conservatives' criticising scientific and critical thinking in it.

2.) Lots and lots of religion, particularly the varieties centred around charismatic leaders.

3.) Confusing the admirable 'Noöne is better than me!' with the insane 'Noöne is better than me at anything!'.

EDIT:

-1.) White guys angry about not getting the regular cookie they'e been told to expect just for being white guys' feeling that this means the System is evil and broken.

Yeah. I’m reading The Big Myth right now, which describes about 130 years of corporate free-market propaganda that supported the Republican Party. Trump was able to step into that messaging environment, hijacking it for his own purposes.

I think _all_ advertising is, and by its natures and ours, will be a miseducation in good decision-making.

It wasn’t just advertising. It was civics textbooks, newspaper editorials, cartoons, and pseudo-research by academics with more degrees than scruples.

I noticed that most of the music was either by people who had died or defunct bands. Everyone else seems to demand he stop using their music because they detest him.

Ms Harris and Mr Walz can't do it, but a whispered 'Go with the party that can ditch its senile leaders.' campaign might help the world stagger around the Sun in only three-quarters–indecent condition a few more times.
