Doesn't the Afghan Aid component of GDP and its subsequent collapse due to no productivity gains in some way support the GOP's contention that giving money to the population to spend doesn't help the economy? If all the claims of multipliers don't change the concept that it is "artificial" how should the economy be improved - "trickle down"? ;(
