Because the auto companies weren’t willing to buy an earlier place in the backlog line during the chip shortage.

If automakers formed a cartel to cut production, why, in East Lansing, were MSUs unused (because of cancelled in-person classes) parking lots filled with 1000s of new GM vehicles waiting for chips?
